Germany has a multi-payer health care system with two main types of health insurance:
"Law-enforced health insurance" (Gesetzliche Krankenversicherung).
"Private" (Private Krankenversicherung).
Who is covered?
Everyone with an income below 3862 euro per month.
People above that are not required but can join the Germain insurance company's (A.K.A. sickness funds).
How is it paid for?
1 of around 300 sickness funds.
Pros:
Everyone who needs to be covered are covered.
Plenty of doctors in system.
Doesn't overspend on costs.
Cons:
Aging population risks putting system into a deficit.
